The Garmin Nuvi 65LMT is Garmin’s latest 6-inch satellite navigation unit that forms part of the “Essentials Series”. We first reviewed this model as part of our best car gps series, however given that it's a 2015 model we have also thought of it as part of our best cheapest navigation model although I am sure as the price comes down it will become part of our best under $100 car gps review. Overall its a great car gps for the 2015 era and one that we can still recommend today.
It comes with a bright, high-resolution screen complete with dual orientation capabilities (it works in horizontal and vertical orientations). Directions provided from the unit are easy to follow with a natural, friendly human voice providing you with turn-by turn directions. Forget about spoken directions that leave you confused, the Nuvi 65 provides you with the directions complete with real landmarks for easier direction, for example instead of telling you take a second left, you will be more likely to hear “turn left after the petrol station”.
Garmin Nuvi 65LMT Review
With this unit, choosing the best GPS and therefore not making a wrong turn are a thing of the past! It boasts of a super fast processor that quickly calculates and makes the necessary changes to the route so you are off on the road again in the right direction! It comes preloaded with detailed maps and speed limit displays of the lower 49 states, and free lifetime updates. It is not affected by cellular dead zones as it doesn’t rely on cellular signals, this way you don’t have to worry that it will go dead at a dead zone!
It comes with a free lifetime traffic avoidance, complete with no ads and you don’t have to pay subscription fees. With this feature, you can avoid all the bad traffic and keep your travels short and simple. With millions of points of interest already preloaded into the unit, you can quickly search for and find what you are looking for. The unit comes with a “search field” in which you can type the address you are looking for or select a category of the point of interest you seek.
It has a school zone feature that warns you with an audible alert and displays on the screen whenever you approach a school zone. You can also customize your screen so it provides you with all the information you need at ago such as your current street, current speed, speed limit and expected arrival time.
With regards to managing your unit, you can easily update maps and software on this unit and transfer your favourites to and from devices. You can also install free custom voices and vehicles. No more will you be faced with the headache of having to manage complicated junctions and highway exits. With the Lane Assist with Junction view, you get a clear display of upcoming junctions, complete with bright coloured arrows that indicate your proper lane.
On the downside though, the battery is not the best, with a duration of about one hour. Included in the box however is a DC cord for those moments when you need to charge the unit, especially when you are travelling longer distances.
Ultimately, this is an ideal GPS unit to have, especially with features such as millions of points of interest, ease with navigating complex interchanges, dual-orientation display, detailed maps with lifetime updates, school zone warnings, instant route calculations, and traffic avoidance.
